3-D - Optical Coherence Tomography

This latest technology allows us to see beneath the surface of your eye like never before. The retina has 10 layers and with the standard equipment we can only see the top layer. With the 3-D OCT scan, we can peel back every layer and examine it in great detail. this allows us to detect many eye & health problems that would not be found from a standard NHS eye test.

This is how we view the back of your eye with our torch. We see a small amount at a time, so we have to move around a lot putting together a picture in our minds. We then write down what we have seen.

This is the view we get using our camera. This photo is kept on your records so that any small changes can be detected in future.

This is a 3-D scan of the disc, the yellow circle you can see in the above photo. You can also see all 10 layers of the retina underneath.

We can then look at each layer at a time, if needed. This is the layer where age related macula degeneration starts and we can see the red raised area. We can then measure this & monitor it very closely.
