Comprehensive Functional Cosmetic Dentistry

    Why have this?

When you can have this.

This patient first came to us with sever pain from her lower molar. The tooth had previously been heavily restored with a large mercury silver filling. The tooth required endodontic treatment which also contributed to further weakening of the tooth.

Traditionally full coverage crowns are used to help reinforce badly damaged teeth. The above picture illustrates what a typical gold crown looks like. As part of the preperation for the full gold crown more tooth tissue needs to be removed further weakening the tooth. With the use of an all ceramic onlay it is possible to restore the tooth full function whilst improving the appearnace and strengthening the tooth structure.

Suffering From Chronic Headaches???

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Almost 90% of all headaches are considered “primary headaches” which are frequently caused by TMJ disorder. This is caused by an imbalance in the relationship of the jaw to the skull. The TMJ joint allows the jaw to open, close and move to the side and forward. It plays an important role in jaw functions such as talking, chewing and yawning.

Symptoms of TMJ disorder may include:

  • limited jaw movement
  • difficulty in opening the mouth
  • a stuck or ‘locked’ jaw
  • clicking, grating or popping noises from the jaw joints
  • pain when chewing, yawning or opening the jaw widely
  • pain in or around the ears and cheeks
  • headaches, and occasionally, migraine-like headaches and nausea

Dr Hassan has spent a year at the Dawson’s Acadcemy and has undergone extensive training to treat these problems and help relieve people from unecessary discomfort. If you feel you are suffereing with TMJ disorder and would like to see Dr Hassan to discuss your treatment options then call the practice  on 01924 373697 and make your first appointment.

OCT Already Proving A Great Success!

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Although we have only had the new equipment a matter of weeks, we have been inundated with patients booking in for their 3D Scans.

An OCT Scan being carried out.

Mrs Hassan has already seen several patients where the eye looks healthy with a standard eye test, but when she has looked in more detail using the OCT equipment, problems have been detected at an early & treatable stage.

OCT Scan of the Macula

OCT Scan of a healthy eye

Once we have taken the scan we can then look at cross sections of each individual layer in more detail, here we can not only dectect eye conditions but also other critical illnesses before others.

If you would like make your OCT appointment you can call the practice on 01924 373697 and a member of our team will be happy to book you in and supply more information if needed!

We look forward to seeing you soon,

Laura Davison, Dispensing Assistant.

No need for ice skates!

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

The cold snap has returned with a vengence on what is traditionally the chilliest day of the year. With plenty of ice and the lack of grit it is making it hazardous around southern areas of the country. Here in Wakefield city centre the snow has almost melted and the roads and path ways have been heavily treated making your journey to Pollards a little bit easier. We are open as usual from 9.00am till 5pm, we look foward to seeing you.

Thankyou!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I would like to say a big thankyou to all the team at Pollards who were very helpful when I was in a great deal of pain. I had not been to a dentist for many years due a bad experience that had left me terrified. After suffering with severe tooth ache for a few days I decided to do something about it. When I called the practice and told the recepionist my problem she was very reasuring and promised me an emergency appointment that same day. When I entered the practice I was very nervous but the friendly staff put me at ease. Dr Hassan was very helpful and explained all my treatment options and even worked through lunch to get me out of pain, enabling me to go home and get a good nights sleep.  Once again thankyou!

Looking After Your Rimless Glasses!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Although chunky frames seem all the rage at the moment, rimless frames are still proving very popular.

They are ideal for people who aren’t keen on the idea of wearing glasses or like the minimist look. However, due to not having a rim around the lenses we see a lot of people who have chipped or damaged their lenses.

Here are a few tips for taking extra care of your rimless glasses:

  • Always take them on and off with BOTH hands
  • Try to keep them in the case as much as possible when you’re not wearing them
  • Try not to put them down on a hard surface as this could chip the lenses

We currently have a brand new range of rimless frames in store – if it’s something you have been thinking about please feel free to call in and try a few pairs on or you can call us today to book a consultation with one of our frame advisors.
