This patient first came to us with sever pain from her lower molar. The tooth had previously been heavily restored with a large mercury silver filling. The tooth required endodontic treatment which also contributed to further weakening of the tooth.
Traditionally full coverage crowns are used to help reinforce badly damaged teeth. The above picture illustrates what a typical gold crown looks like. As part of the preperation for the full gold crown more tooth tissue needs to be removed further weakening the tooth. With the use of an all ceramic onlay it is possible to restore the tooth full function whilst improving the appearnace and strengthening the tooth structure.
