I have just watched this very interesting Dispatches programme about NHS dentistry and wanted to share with you some of my thoughts.

I agree with the viewpoint that it is almost impossible to provide a good dental service within the constrainsts of the NHS. For example, dental implants, which provide the best permanent solution for missing teeth, are not available on the NHS. Many dentists will not even tell their patients that implants are an option privately.
It is due to these very limitations that I decided to withdraw from the NHS, similar to one collegue on the programme, and many other collegues that I know personally. I have always prided myself on offering our patients ALL the available treatment options, so that the patient can make an informed choice, within their budget and lifestyle, rather than being restricted by NHS treatments.
