Alistair and his family are long standing patients of the practice, therefore we have got to know the whole family quite well. Understandably we were very saddened when Alistair informed us he had been diagnosed with a severe brain tumour last year and has been undergoing intense treatment since.
Despite his poor health Alistair decided he wanted to do a charity parachute jump to raise money for The Teenage Cancer Trust who have been helping him throughout his treatment.
So far Pollards alone have raised over £500 and still counting! so please if you are passing by and would like to make a difference to children battling with cancer please call in and make a small donation in our collection box.
Today, Optometrists Rowena & Qausia have visited Wakefield’s Multiple Sclerosis Society meeting in Freeport, Junction 32. Qausia explained how the eye is the only place in the body where nerve fibres can be directly viewed, and also how nerve fibres of the eye are unmyelinated, giving a good indication of damage. She recommended a 20-30min eye exam every year, checking eye muscles and nerve fibres.
Qausia also advised the group about new 3D Eye Scan technology which has been proven to monitor and detect nerve fibre damage and loss, similar to an MRI scan. It is fast, painless and affordable compared to an MRI scan! It also includes a 60 min one to one consultation with our Optometrist, who can go through the results with you.
Prices are:
If NHS entitled eye exam £35
If private eye exam £45
